9:47 p.m. in Shanghai (8:47 a.m. in Texas)

It was another AMAZING day of competition for Texas athletes, and we were lucky enough to catch the exciting conclusion to the powerlifting competition.  The training and dedication of athletes Bobby Lord of Webster and J.R. Hernandez of Round Rock paid off.  Bobby earned two gold medals and one silver, and J.R. lifted his way to three bronze medals (Jordan Svehlak of Round Rock lifted yesterday and scored a silver and two bronze).

They showed their strength in taking on some very tough competitors, and they prevailed.  Honored in the closing of the competition, they were the last to be awarded their medals as confetti "rained" down on the crowd.  What a way to end their World Games run!

The Shanghai Daily paper interviewed the three athletes and SOTX President and CEO, Margaret Larsen... the article should run in tomorrow's paper (we'll post a weblink if available).

Other results for the day are as follows:

AQUATICS: Ashley Billard of Houston and Texas Nelson of Denton both scored silver in the 4x100M Freestyle Relay.

ATHLETICS: Mark Cannon of Ponder received a silver for the 400M Run and a bronze for the Pentathalon.  Paul Holland of Shady Shores walked his way to a bronze in the 100M Walk.

CYCLING: Chris Hines of Baytown rode his way to a silver for the 10K Road Race.

GYMNASTICS: Madeline Braley of Plano tumbled into two gold medals (All Around and Uneven Bars) and three silver medals (Balance Beam, Floor Exercise and Vaulting).  Amanda Brookshire of Melissa earned one gold, one silver and one bronze (for Floor Exercise, Balance Beam and Uneven Bars respectively).  Brittany Manworren of Plano was awarded two golds (Vaulting and Balance Beam), one silver for All Around and a bronze for Floor Exercise.

SAILING: Kendrick Lawrence of Duncanville sailed to a gold in the Unified Monohull with partner Steve Comen of Plano.

TENNIS: Billy Hansbury of Denton slammed a bronze for Singles.  Amanda Mickan of Richmond and Michael O'Connell of Spring both earned a silver for Singles.

Tomorrow is the final day of competition, as well as Closing Ceremonies.  Cheer on our Texas athletes in their last run for victory!
