October 4, 2007

11:09 p.m. in Shanghai (10:09 a.m. in Texas)

It was a great day of competition for Team USA, and we were able to see a lot of Texas athletes!  We started the day at the volleyball venue and caught our team's first game against Chinese Taipei.  Although the fell 15-25, they played strong!

The volleyball athletes and coaches are doing well; they have been able to spend time with their visiting families in the evening.  Last night they met up at the famous Yu Yuan Gardens; tonight they went to see the Chinese Acrobats; and later this week they are going on a riverboat tour.

At gymnastics today, we saw Jessica Clopp in her first round of preliminaries.  SOTX athletes were in attendance to cheer her on - she had her very own Texas cheering section!  And at bowling, we were able to see Myles Barman warming up to bowl over his competition.  Be sure to visit the Photos page for photos of all the athletes we were able to see.

Finally, we're thrilled to report that Texas' own Texas Nelson, Jr. won a silver medal today in the 100M backstroke... the first we have to report so far.  A strong start... and it is only just beginning!
