ATHLETE REPORTER: Paul Holland of Shady Shores
Training Camp Journal July 12, 2007 I went to the airport to meet my point person, Freddie Taylor. He is very nice and funny. It was fun to see Team Texas meet at the airport. It took two hours to get to Nashville.
Once I got in my room, I unpacked my own luggage. (I never did that before. I did a good job.)
I was happy to see my coach from the 2006 China Pre-Games, Donna Diaz. Then I got to meet my new head coaches, Cathy Harper and Jackie Schroeder.
The best part of today was seeing Jo Dee Messina at dinner. She has been my favorite singer for several years.
July 13, 2007 I got up at 5:00 a.m. today. We took team photos early this morning. Breakfast was good. I ate hash browns and sausage.
I got to train with my coaches. It was fun to get on the track and practice the 100 meter walk. This afternoon I practiced the softball throw.
The best part of today was seeing Minter Willis, one of my coaches from China 2006.
July 14, 2007 I got up early for practice. My coach was working with me to stay in my lane. By the end of practice, I was doing pretty good. I also practiced the softball throw.
The best part of today was going to see the Nashville Sounds Baseball Game. They won the game. Baseball is my favorite sport. I have a lot of baseball stuff in my room at home.
July 15, 2007 The track team had a mini meet. I ran well and stayed in my lane.
We had a real nice farewell banquet. They told us all about the Team USA uniforms for China. I gave my coaches Team Texas t-shirts. Ms. Diaz said she was going to wear hers to work.
The best part of today was going to a celebrity softball game. Wow! Baseball and Jo Dee Messina at the same time.
July 16, 2007 My last day. It's been fun seeing and meeting new friends. I had to say goodbye. I can't wait to see them again in China.
My mom and dad were waiting for me at the gate when I got off the plane. I plan to practice every week for World Games. I want to make Texas proud.
The best part of today was hugging my mom and dad at the airport.
